PHL EMBASSY IN ROME CONDUCTS WORKSHOPS ON GENDER AND DEVELOPMENT AND VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN

27 October 2015 –The Philippine Embassy in Rome, in cooperation with the Filipino Women’s Council (FWC) conducted a workshop last October 18 on Gender and Development (GAD) and Violence Against Women (VAW) for the community. In attendance were 40 community members, some representing women’s groups and home town association.

On October 22, a similar workshop was conducted for the Embassy personnel.

The workshops explained GAD and VAW concepts, terminologies and approaches to the participants, with the primary aim of strengthening their capacities in promoting and protecting the rights of women. Migrant Filipinos and Embassy staff members were also sensitized on the importance of speaking out against violence and were informed on the relevant Italian laws and institutions mandated to penalize such acts.
